Gov. Easley Appoints Glass To Traumatic Brain Injury Advisory Council

Raleigh - Gov. Mike Easley has appointed Travis Glass of Chapel Hill to the North Carolina Traumatic Brain Injury Advisory Council.   

Glass is a direct care provider for The Arc of Orange County. He is a member of the Brain Injury Association of North Carolina, UNC at Chapel Hill’s Student’s Taking Action in Rehabilitation and the Chapel Hill Brain Injury Support Group. Glass received his Bachelor’s degree in English education, business administration and business management from Appalachian State University and his Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and Psychology from UNC at Chapel Hill.   

The council is charged with reviewing how the term “traumatic brain injury” is defined by state and federal regulations and determining whether changes should be made to the state definition to include “acquired brain injury” or other appropriate conditions. The council works to promote interagency coordination among state agencies responsible for services and support of individuals that have sustained traumatic brain injuries and study the needs of individuals with traumatic brain injuries and their families.

The council makes recommendations to the governor, General Assembly and secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services regarding the planning, development, funding and implementation of a comprehensive statewide service delivery system. The council has 29 members, each serving a four-year term. The governor appoints 11 members. The secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services appoints eight members, the Senate President Pro Tempore and the Speaker of the House each appoint three members, the Superintendent of Public Instruction appoints two members and the Commissioner of Insurance and the secretary of the Department of Administration each appoint one member.
